Sarah Parsons awarded prominent Carleton Trophy

Sarah Parsons has been selected as the 2004-2005 winner of the women's John Carlton Memorial Trophy.

Parsons, a member of the gold-medal winning U.S. Women's National Team, was presented with the award from Boston Bruins GM and VP Mike O'Connell on May 18.

The award is presented annually to a male and female Eastern Massachusetts high school senior "who combines both exceptional hockey skills and academic excellence."

Parsons, a native of Dover, Mass., played five seasons of varsity hockey at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Mass., winning three New England Girls titles. She scored 42 goals and 50 assists for 92 points in 25 games as a senior. Parsons set the school single-season and career goal scoring records as a junior when she netted 54 goals and 39 assists for 93 points in 27 games.

Parsons, who is just 17 years old was the youngest member of the U.S. Women's National Team. She scored two goals and two assists for four points in five games as Team USA won its first-ever gold medal at the IIHF Women's World Championships after winning eight straight silver medals.
